The Hunt - Driving them out
I am still in a dilemma on choosing the right picture for this title, but finally I decided on this,(I will post the other sequence another day). This shows the oooh so famous Harrier hunt sequence with the Harrier doing what he does best, scaring the living daylights out of thousands of ducks/geese etc, peacefully (and noisily) wading the calm waters of Bharathpur. I was lucky enough to get most of the hunt action and must thanks our Rikshaw driver cum Guide Birendar for the key insights he provided me during the whole event. Right from getting me in position to explaining and keeping an eye on the Harrier which sometimes I would loose in the commotion. This is the second phase of the hunt, where the Harrier after gliding quietly from the behind (first phase) would suddenly emerge to scare all those thousands of ducks. The commotion of the takeoff with the Harrier "Driving" his prey out is what I have in this picture. I deliberately included the dry grass in the FG to emphasize on the "Takeoff" of the ducks.
I have seen tigers hunt and lions hunt (on TV) but this was the first time I was actually witnessing an avian hunt of this magnitude. And will stay etched in my memory forever.

You almost got what I had in mind to make Harsha :) Unfortunately I could not get the raptor where I wanted. The other challenge was I could not get the right angle to emphasize the action. I was not very keen on those trees at the back but then we can't get all we want in nature ! I am yet to process my version. I got a very small image of the raptor in the frame. You have it much bigger and better. Thanks for sharing..

Good one, man. Personally I think that the foreground grass would have worked better had the angle been lower. If this were mine I would crop off the grass to emphasize the action. I think the drama of the ducks taking off would still be retained even without the grass as the ground can still be seen. Always nice to see images in which action and natural phenomena are showcased. Good work!
