Separation
Made this image of Gharaial at Corbet National Park couple of years backs. Kind of liked the separation of water and riverbed and the angle of view here. Love to know your thoughts..

This is another lesson in framing the simplicity. Anyone who has been to Corbett would have seen this but capturing such lovely contrasts and tones and to top it the gharial adds a lot.

Hi Ganesh,
This is a very different shot in the sense that it has dual character. It's a landscape and also a wildlife shot. The physical separation of water and pebbles adds to the dual character. It also has a conservation appeal to it.
Thanks for sharing

Fantastic image Ganesh! I particularly liked the separation line...the two halves of the image are strikingly contrast in the feel... great seeing and very well executed. Thanks for sharing...

yes , the great sense to smell the frame, wonderful peace of work. the contrast in the half image plays moody coherency with the other.

Fine composition Ganesh. Liked the dry and wet 'division'. What I also liked is the dry portions on the reptile's back (like an island of dryness in wet waters).
Something that bothers me is the brightness of the pebbles (left segment of the image) and its especially its sharpness. I might darken that portion a wee bit and perhaps soften it too.

Sir, I could not prevent myself from trying an alternate composition where the water partition moves across the frame as a diagonal from one corner to the opposite one. What would you say for framing such images with a "dual" character, in a way such that the image is separated along the diagonal rather than being separated at the vertical or horizontal center of the frame? Also hope you dont mind me cropping and uploading your image in the illustration forum.

Sorry for not being active on the forum. Been extremely busy with daily bread winning job ;-)

Beautiful image Ganesh. I guess there are many more hidden gems in your archives. This is another gem of an image in terms of composition. As, Kaushik said the different in contrast and brightness from right to left of the frame is slight on the higher side. That apart this is an amazing image.

Thanks friends for your views !

Harsha, thanks for the suggestion on composition. You are right diagonal separation might work better than presented. Wish I could do it retaining the relative size of the land/water and Gharial intact (without crop). I felt increasing the size of the Gharial in the frame would slightly affect the sense of place and mood. Thanks again !

Beautiful composition... Loved the harmony in the curve of the river & body of croc...

I find it a simple yet special image. Like the composition a lot. Brightness of pebbles seem to give a sense of heat/sun glare while the water coolness of using a shades (eye). Very nice Ganesh.

Somehow I like the original composition, Ganesh. The theme of separation does come through very clearly and aesthetically with the contrast between the sharp and bright rendering of the land and the dark and soft water serving to create a most interesting composition.
