Fumes of the (butter)fly
I made this image at a Local park in Bangalore, India. I saw Tailed Jay butterflies sipping nectar from a kind of (I think) Zinnia flower. The challenge was these Tailed Jays constantly flap their wings even while sipping nectar. Instead of freezing its wings, I decided to blur it by using a very slow shutter speed. I was using my Nikon F5 and Velvia 50 slide film, 50 ISO helped me use slow shutter speed in the morning sun light. Further, I chose shade of a tree as the background for image to give it a more dramatic appeal. Though I made a few images freezing its wings using high shutter speed later, I loved this one more.

tripod using Arca-Swiss ball head, Velvia 50, scanned using
Nikon Coolscan V ED, close to full frame.

A sheer intelligence and brilliance shows up in this image. It is very hard to imagine on the first sight that it is a butterfly! You must have been lucky not to get shake on the flower which is so sharp and still! :) The color of the flower is so beautifully exposed with black bg.

Thought process and class of touch behind this one of kind image in the world. Try searching net and you will not get single image of butterfly close to this. Thinking of 50 ISO, current popular DSLRs lack this feature.

Inagruably one of THE BEST image in your files. Really hard to find or make one more which can touch its class.

Yet another enduring masterpiece! Love the beautiful light on the flower and the dark background and the mystical "fumes" that add magic to this composition!

This is imagination at its peak. No text book can actually teach to think like this.
