remembering van gogh
crows over the baobab - reminded me of the dutch painter van gogh, who shot himself dead in the fields with crows - did you hear that shot? - crows are flying amuck!

i duotoned this image as though the baobab was simply huge and like always with the aura of mysterious feeling (maybe, my personal due to it's unusual appearance) the whole sky was awfully bad textured & coloured, there were lots of unavoidable distraction of the high bushes behind it, this was the only way left to pull out the central theme.

i also tried blending layers, see at http://flickr.com/photos/43109416@N00/1057265906/

thank you for the critics and ratings. regards.

brilliant image. The image has a dual nature to it. One one end it reminds me of the Moors of the "Wuthering Heights" with its dark swampy turbulent nature and on the other the uneasiness of, as you pointed out, the mind of Vangogh. I must say this image is very close to the emotions depicted by Vangogh in the "Wheat Field with Crows" though the sky in Vangogh's case is more dynamic, but the lack of the dynamics in the sky is somehow compensated in the Moor like nature of the ground and the dead tree. I prefer the BW image to the color version, but that's just me!

Great appeal in this image. Loved the grey tone idea with white sky. Composition is good with birds.

Very artistic image Nevil. I like your decision of converting it to B&W, apart from artistic appeal it also adds a historic feeling to the image which goes well in remembering Vangogh. Not sure whether you could have avoided cropping the tree. Another subtle characteristic of this image is slight softness which in my view is significantly adding to the subtle mood.

Overall a beautiful creation. Thanks for sharing Nevil.

A very impressionist kind of image, love the lines of the baobab and the crows add a lot, I do see that there is a lot of pre-visualisation in your images and must say after looking at your Flickr portfolio you have travelled with a camera quite a bit. I feel your image could be enjoyed more if they were a little larger than at present.

Beautiful image and what an analogy! Sepia tint goes very well with the image. Liked it a lot.
