Gururaja
Desert...
Today (21 september 2008) morning at Masinagudi (Mudumalai tiger reserve outskirts)...had in mind Ganesh's photograph of Cactus (looking like a woodlog in water). Changed the perspective...to have the feel of desert with thorny shrubs. One shot taken covers the entire image with spines (I have not put here), but in this image I tried to bring the sky, as to give more weightage to the feel. Few pixels from bottom cropped and as per Dr. Aravind's suggestion, converted into gray scale. One suggestion from Dr. Aravind is, to try for a landscape composition than verticle, but personally felt the impact of thorns would be diminished if in landscape. Comments most welcome.

simply wonderful composition and metaphor, guruji. beautiful shadows too. i feel, little more contrast would look better. yes, this monochrome goes nicely to justify the title.

regards.

What an eye! I loved the shadows too. Monochrome definitely works here. Brilliant execution here

One of my friend, Ms. Priti Hebbar, has suggested the title to be "Prickle or Picturesque?"...would that be nice!

Lovely idea here Gururaja. I too feel that the monochrome is a nice choice for this image. The undulating patterns on the cactus' surface look like the sand dunes of a desert indeed !
Might just crop a few pixels on left to 'simplify' the image by removing excessive elements in the frame. Will add my experiment in the illustration forum & update this message...

EDIT/UPDATE: Have added an experimental re-crop image here in the illustration forum.

It indeed seem to portray the desert feeling Gururaj - accentuated by that prominent front one. I think increased contrast may add to the image. Nice imagination here. Thanks for sharing.
