Wiped out
Over 25,000 elephants were killed in 2011, and likely more than that number in 2012.
Mostly African, lost to rampant poaching.
And in India, hit by trains.
Experts give the African species another decade at the most, at this rate, and then ... wiped out.

very contemporary image...the curves actually look like a passing wave of times and tht placement of elephant indicate the gravity of situation .well executed pic

Excellent image Arati ! It took sometime for me to find the elephant there. Initially I was wondering what this one is to do with elephants :) Once I found it I could easily relate to the image. The placement
of the elephant departing from the frame is very thoughtful. It would be interesting to B&W version of this image. I think loosing green would further add. Thanks for sharing.

I like the colored version as compared to the black and white Arati. I too initially failed to see the elephant :-). What are these spots and white things in the image ? Am still unable to understand fully the wiping out of the elephants from this image except for the faded elephant presence. By the way, I hope my lines are short enough now ? :-).

arati, as always, u bring in very unusual images..thoughtprovoking and very nicely tied to your concepts and a reality in the context of present status of environmental issues..i also like the coloured version more .. had to take a hard look..at the way i look..to notice the elephant..:):):) seems to have been shot through glass window?? the water stains or prints and circular wiper marks on the windscreen? interesting effect to include in the image..

Class image to go with the message. Fantastic. I prefer the colored version.

Hahahaha Nilanjan da! It was paragraphs, not sentences :)

Thanks all for the comments. Yes, i too like the colored version better.
Nilanjan Da: The concept was a windshield wiper strokes as if wiping out the elephant slowly ... I shot this through the front windshield of our gypsy, deliberately focusing on the glass. Another image has a slightly wider view of this baby in front and an adult in the rearview mirror. But that was becoming a bit too complicated :) Decided to keep it simple, and post this one.
Thanks,
A

Hey Arati, lovely, the way you visualized this frame. And very apt for the current depressing situation with rising elephant deaths.
Very, very lovely :)

Despite reading comments above, it took an extra moment for me to find the elephant. Color looks better, for me a bit more cleaner gypsy windshield filter would have worked, just the strokes of the wiper ?

Lovely concept here Arati. Liked the Windshield wiper concept. BW makes better sense to me.

Good concept and simple execution. Top notch

Arati...the monotone works like a charm for me...It really stirs my imagination and I can visualize the slow decay of a majestic species from the face of the earth in the backdrop of the unperturbed celestial movements (thanks to those beautiful lines created by the wiper)...
Loved it totally...TFS!

And that is a wonderful interpretation, Abhisek ... thanks for that. :)
thank you hrishikesh!
