Mimosa Pudica Flower
I always appreciated beauty of this little flower but could not make satisfying images. I spent some time today and made this one. Closer look at the flower revealed the contrast difference between those tiny tips (stamens?) and those rosy strands. Thanks to bad light I used flash light to selectively lit the flower and stamens in particular. The shutter speed/aperture combination is controlled to leave a trace of green in background (which may not show up on uncalibrated displays). Love to know your thoughts..

I always put my macro lens on this and wondered how to capture the DOF of this flower, what aperture was used here. The use of selective external light really brings out the beauty. First impressions may lead it to be a normal floral shot, put a lens to this flower then you need all the skills to showcase the way its done here. I feel the right dof makes it stand out because by blurring the farther stamens but keeping the sharpness to the areas of focus adds a lot.

VMR, you are right, getting the DOF is the big issue for successful macro of this flower. In this case I went down to f22 (or f32? don't remember exactly, EXIF don't show that since I had a PK-13 extension tube). DOF button comes handy in these cases though at low apertures view finder turns very dark so judging the sharpness is an issue too.

Use of flash is done to perfection. The white balance looks so normal. I would agree with VMR w.r.t the 'right DOF' part mainly because, an increase in DOF would render the stamens in the BG sharp, thus competing with the stamens in the front which is undesired. Liked the entangled look in this flower too. What do u think about even shallower DOF...?

Thanks VMR and Kaushik for the suggestions. At f22 or may be even at f16 judging the accurate dof is tough (on a cloudy day). May be I should have bracketed the image with different apertures..
