Just back from a week long trip to a remote village. I was trying some tight compositions with selective dof and this bee showed up right there on the field of view. Thanks for your views..

What an demonstration of selective dof and the the presence of two different sizes of insects and the pleasing bg all come together for an amazing medley showing very aptly the relation of size in nature.

Absolutely fantastic image. Nice & shallow DOF with uniform pink bokeh. Liked the sharp (& still bee) & yet with motion blur on wings. Good thing is that the whole body is parallel & lies in the focal plane. Were you using autofocus ?
What I also liked is the darker shades of pink petals towards the bottom & a bit on the right edge of the frame. These darker regions help defining the lighter pink regions in a sort of funnel shape thus leading our vision into the frame diagonally to the bee from lower right.

Loved the Bokeh, the color and the DOF here sir. Nice to see you make images again after a brief hiatus. :)

Kaushik, I was on manual focus when this one showed up ! Hurriedly turned the focus ring to get it. Couple of other images weren't but this one but for the wings got rendered very sharp.

nice to see it like playing with the colors, unbrocken pink shade, both the insects in the focal plane adds a lot to the image, and the few signing fibers in the light rays falling on the limited area gives bonus.
This solves my prob. regarding focus, that in these type of situation I have always gone to manual doubtfully but this image returns my confidence.
such image demands good experience and and a real sense to smell the colour and light to shoot it, hats off........:)

It's great see three objects in focus plane and one of them in motion too. Great timing and execution by a very seasoned photographer.

Outstanding image. There are very few images which never gets forgotten from one's mind. This image is lifetime memorable for me. The black insect is comming out of frame very clearly. The blurred wing looks great. Thanks a lot for sharing this...

Ah this is fantastic, Ganesh! A true work of art, as most of your images are. The only thing my eyes yearn for is sharper focus on the top stigma (which the bee is approaching) but it's macro and you can't have everything in focus, so this is good enough. Were you beyond 1:1 for this? Marvellously done.

Commentby Ganesh H Shankar on Wed May 20, 2009 1:28 pm

Santhosh, I think I was close enough to my minimum focus distance which means close to 1:1.

Thaks you all friends for your views..
