UFO...?
It was snowing and I had just returned home from outside. As the temp inside the home was warm, the snow that was there on the cloths and on the box that I had brought started melting and were becoming small droplets. The droplets were looking very cute, esp. the ones which are on the thin transparent plastic sheet wrapped to the box. So decided to experiment on them as I had just got the extension tubes!

This image was made using 50mm f/1.8 with 56mm extension tube on my Nikon D80. The placement was such that I get the reflection of the window on the surface of the drop. So what you are seeing as the windows of the UFO is actually the window of my home! This image is infact a color image. I haven't touched the color/saturation during the PP. I was so close to the drop that there was hardly few millimeters left between the front element and the drop. I decided to photograph from the horizontal angle so that I get the bulging of the drop. As I dint had tripod and my camera being a very slow one I had a very tough time before I came up with some keepables! But believe me, working with extension tubes on shorter focal lengths that too handheld with a slow camera in hand is a real real tough job.

Would love to hear your views.

Beautiful image! The colours in this image make it look so simple, yet attractive. Loved the "folds" in the...plastic sheet(?). The water drop itself, as you say, is very cute. Beautiful visualisation!

Nice visualisation if only the drop was a little bigger in the frame.

Terrific stuff. I like the reflections within the droplet. Really does look like a space-craft or a UFO! Love the calm, serene feel too! What are the ring-like spots I see to the left of the drop???

Beautiful and very creative Ashwin. l liked the idea of making an image of melting snow. But I am not sure what are the round circle to the left of the water droplet?

Thanks all for your views. I checked in the original RAW image and found those cirsles there also. I remember there were some reflections of light from some other drops onto my lens. I tried my best to avoid them and one of those reflections is what has caused that effect I feel. honestly I am also not very sure on that as my attention was totally on focussing the drop and placing it in the frame where I wanted. The world start looking totally different when you add the extension tube onto your camera!

Very creative indeed Ashwin ! It looks like beautiful flat pearl. Not sure what those two circular shapes in front of the droplet which seem to cause a bit of distraction. Well seen and executed - thanks for sharing..
