Bear at night
I just managed to get one in the frame using a camera trap. Wish the bear was a little towards center but calculations invariably seem to go wrong with such un-manned setups. What a luxury to see our subjects through the view finder and release the trigger ! May be I need to practice seeing images with closed eyes. Thanks for your views..

PS : On an uncalibrated display the bear may appear to merge with darkness but it should look clearly separated on a calibrated display.

Another benchmarking in Indian wildlife Photography. Spotlight effect, stone and position of bear (to my taste) are just fantastic. I would include just one twig on the top :-).

brilliant effort and a great reward.

I am assuming that you were expecting the bear around the same path as you have got. if thats the case why did you chose the source of light from left ? was the shadow the rock intentional to add to the frame? just want to discuss how you plan.

RD, I chose the light from left for couple of reasons - on shoe front light I thought may give a "normal" flash light feel so to add drama I made it side light. But then I paid the price for it. Also, I concealed my setup in a hard shell so I could not have used on shoe flash too. In fact I had another wireless remote flash which did not fire due to low battery. Murphy's law - "If anything can go wrong it will" seem to be always true..

Ok after more than 24 hrs after coming to terms with this image, I think I can just about try penning some thoughts. First things first.

1) 10/10 for the effort put in to pull this shot through
2) 10/10 for visualization, seeing this image in the dark with closed eyes requires a lot of dedication and expertise, and I don't think the image could have been bettered in any other way. The bear seems to be walking into the light from the darkness, and could be interpreted in multiple ways, and it goes in well with the objective of this site which is all about creative seeing, and if this isnt creative then what is?

I can only wait with bated breath anxious to see what other master pieces we can expect in the coming years. Congrats on this huge success sir :)

Great work. To set yourself next challenge, how about a termite mound instead of rock in monsoon as the termites emerge out and bear walking towards it? :)
