Jewels of Nature
I made this image just before sun rise last Monday. Flash light was the main source of light here. I like the unique jewel like effect which the use of flash light created. Thanks for your views..

very good experiment here, the flash light has not given the much needed form for the dew drops, may be a different angle (flash light) would work wonders. The dew drops looks like some design of the wings. could have used the ambient light of early morning to get some color in the background, like the green patch at left. Neverthless this looks very much like a jewel.

For me the light has worked very well here Ganesh. I like the angle too. I love the dew forms on the wings. :)

The lighting is the highlight of this image! very dramatic effect this has created. The only thing that is not gelling well is the perch. The wet look of the perch is distracting the view. But kudos to your effort in deviating the attention of the viewer only onto the butterfly and reducing the light on the perch. This is the learning that I got from this image. If I were at your place i would have thought thought and only thought on how can I avoid that wet perch which doesn't add to the image, but may be with no result! But here you are - made the lighting such that the attention is deviated only onto the wings with morning Jewels...shining.... A learning well learnt for me! Thanks.

Indeed there are ample of Jewels in nature, you have highlighted one here which is appealing, agree with nagraj if there was some colour in background, it would have worked well.

The wings alone with the droplets (+ flash) can make an interesting close-up too.
I might patiently clone out (or spot heal) each of those tiny white specs on the perch (flash reflections), for I find it pretty distracting & as I try to look at the butterfly, the specs tend to drag my attention.
But again, that's just me :)

I agree with you fully Kaushik. Only reason I did not consider that option was I don't wanted to tag this particular image DM (digitally modified) on my web site.

I did consider making a close portrait but an interesting observation about this image is it is the darker bg behind the wings which makes the image ! YOu can try cropping it to see !! If I exclude the perch then I have to exclude the dark bg too (otherwise composition does not balance) which I felt brings down the "jewel" effect. Thanks for your views..

Beautiful Image Ganesh. I liked the sharpness and the way studded butterfly is portrayed. Others have talked about it much. One thing what I feel is, instead of a whitelight because of flash, a warm yellow light or usage of yellow flash gel would have created a better impact is what I feel.
