These are called Biofilm. Natural plant oils / bacterial releases. More about them here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biofilm
Most often, people confuse these to "oil spills". There is a way to know if it is oil spill or a real bio film :)

Artistic, Colorful & Contrasty. Very Interesting subject too. Thanks for the information.

I feel the dark corners in the image are taking away the attention little bit from the original composition. I visited this image multiple times and somehow felt the same all the time.

A big print will do the justice for this image. Thanks for sharing.

I am going looking for bio-films now! :)

Absolutely riveting. The colours are brilliant. Almost non-natural, metallic. Form and arrangement make a great frame. One can easily keep returning to it. TFS!
