I resisted my friends' urge to go near the bird, and stepped back quite a lot and made this image. And the bird didnot disappoint my friend, later it flew and perched close enough for him to capture in 400mm.
Levels, curves and saturation adjusted.

Very beautiful setting RD. Liked the grassland feel and the slight mist around. I would have placed the bird slightly to the right to make more impact. As presented for me it looks a bit cornered and if possible I would have avoided the dark green patch at the left bottom as well. I feel the monotonous grass in the foreground would have increased the punch! But these are all easy to type sitting here, but in the field it is a different ball game..I know ;) A very good attempt here with a fine result. Thanks for sharing....

Nice presentation RD. I really liked your temptation of going back and shooting a scape instead of a closeup even when you have a 800mm. Probably placing a bird a bit to the right ( where the back bush starts ) might be a good option. The setting gives a feel of a savanna and the bush & tree in the bg adds to the mood of the image.

Very lovely feel conveyed here, I think the mist and the perch, the dry grass have all added to this lovely image.

Thanks for your encouraging words.
Ashwini & Shiva, I did try to place the bird a bit right by moving left, but that would have added a car with an ace photographer to the frame on right, as he was clicking this bird in close range! It would have also added the the darker spots on the FG. I visit this place often, i hope can better this image someday.
