Sir currently as I think of it I see four stages
Looking - In the visual field but no acknowledgment. A person will not even remember there was a tree there
Seeing - Acknowledged and registered. Can remember seeing a tree there
Scrutiny - Add meaning, which species, want to pluck and possess,
Experience - Wonder about the color, the shape, the texture, see it in different forms and able to relate to it
Immerse - Be the tree and see it all as interconnected
If you pardon would like to relate to a Zen Koan
Could not find the original but goes something like this
Zen master asked the student to meditate on the Bull
- He came back after few months and said I can see the shape etc . Master says go back
- Cameback and says I experience sitting on the bull holding the horns ….Master says go back
- Few years later he says I cannot come out of the room the horns are getting blocked at the door ….he knows he attained Zen

When last year's rains had felled a number of trees in Lalbag and were subsequently converted into really interesting figurines by various artists, the number of people who queued up to see them were in plenty. I was specifically asked to go and see them. But somehow I could not appreciate the beauty of these as well as the modified and designed plants as much as I could connect with the living breathing trees with all their raw beauty. Another reason why I avoid Lalbag during the Flower shows and I've always wondered is it so difficult to appreciate something as it is unless it fits into our specifications of beauty?
As Ganesh sir has rightly pointed out Beauty is an Irony... we have plants shaped like animals in the parks and the real animals get poached in the forests, and their homes destroyed on a daily basis, what are we trying to do/show here??? this has been my personal view for a long time and this post just brought all the sentiments out.

There are plenty of things in nature which we refuse to appreciate in its original form. Here in my campus, the gardeners are always trimming the plant. They will never allow the natural plant to grow, and in the laboratory, the scientists will try to regenerate plants artificially. If you take a walk in a nearby garden, there are so many natural forms to be appreciated (be it plant or insects etc) but all we do is take a selfie or photograph of a plant that is not in its natural form and it is so called beautified to another shape or form. I hope someday we learn to enjoy nature's beauty in a way it is...:)

Seems human needs to leave his marks everywhere! :(
Much thought provoking 'irony'. Also interesting 'Koan' by Raj.
Regards.
