Safe during the night.

Safe during the night.
Holidays last week and as a coincidence there was a moor only 15 min with the car from where we lived, and this moor (Tister Bauernmoor) is a resting place for cranes heading south this time of the year. So I spend an evening and an early morning there. The cranes stand in the water during the night, without reach for predators. Rather safe and only the see eagle is a threat. At day time they spend their time on the fields around, stuffing in energy for the rest of the travel to Spain or even northern Africa. For me it is interesting to see the cranes here in Germany in the migration, several houndreds at the same time, as earlier in Sweden I had seeing them as couples and very shy in the breeding time.

Anders, Love the cool (evening?) light. What cranes are those? Looks like geese at this small size..

Common cranes/Eurasian cranes, Grus grus. They are actually not so small.
The weather was rather bad. Actually, in the early morning when I came, it was unusual dark and I had hard time to see the way to walk there. But it is nice to only sit on such a place and first almost only hear the sound, before the light is slowly coming.
