Purpose Served?
I was away at BRT for a few days on some photo assignment. I spent sometime below a Gulmohar tree which was in full bloom. On a stone below a tree I noticed these fallen petals and stamens. The magical humming sound of bees visiting the tree made me believe these richly coloured petals served the purpose for which Nature designed them. I am sure so are those fallen stamens on the ground. Oh! no, they still have not completed their journey, till they serve as food for other life forms on this stone. What an astounding, meticulous and artistic design by Nature!! Both visually and conceptually. These petals and stamens will soon disappear. Why did Nature go for such a wonderful design and gave them only a week of life? Or 'time' exists only in our dictionary and not in Nature's?! Probably it is so since we also have been given some 'time' by Nature to live on this planet earth!

During my school days I have studied "parts of a flower" in my botany/biology class. I struggled hard to remember and reproduce them in the examination mechanically. It is sad that our school "science" books have taken "Nature" for granted, diluting the magic and mystery of Nature, presenting everything as dry mechanical details. Better late than never...

Hmm, this image clearly shows how a browser can render vibrant subtle colors in a suboptimal way :( The petal appears much paler as viewed using a browser (Chrome)..

Interesting how "body parts!!" of a flower still evoke positive feelings ? Are we hard wired to believe all non moving ( for want of better definition ) living things feel no physical pain / emotion etc so we have none of the revulsion reserved for "body parts " of mammals, insects and birds etc Thoughts ?

Art is about what is inside rather than what is outside

Raj, I think as appearance "body parts" comes closer to our own body parts then the "opinions" starts changing I guess :)
