Indus Gold
I made this image on our way to Leh from Manali after a long drive sitting inside our car for the whole day. We were on the outskirts of the city driving next to the banks of the famous river when we noted just how beautiful the light was. It was turning everything into gold on contact. But what caught my attention was the golden glow of the river itself, and unlike the regular scenery around us, it wasnt glowing gold due to the sunlight falling directly on it, but due to the golden light falling on a distant mountain and reflecting off it on to the river. This was the first time ever that I had seen a distant mountain cast its glow on to a river and shows how brilliant the golden light was that evening. I immediately decided to make a picture of it and very soon realized the challenges involved, both physically and technically. To start off, the river current was very strong and its freezing temperature wasnt making things any easier. Technically the dynamic range between the water in the FG and the clouds and the mountain in the BG was too huge to render it right in one exposure. So it had to be a dual exposure with one for the water ( Sekonic incident light reading at 1/20 sec and f8) and one for the distant mountain (Camera reflected light reading at 1/250 sec and f8).
I however wish that my FG had something more dynamic than just plain flowing water to anchor the shot, but since the main intention was to showcase the glow on the river, I am ok with the plain water as it is. However hope the image conveys the richness of the light we had that evening, and hoping the experiment with the exposures was a success.

Thanks for looking

Beautiful landscape Sriharsha. Light on the far mountains, the cloud pattern, colour of the river and its fury is very well captured. Agree with you on a better FG. Thanks for sharing.
