This is ultimate Ganesh, love the light and shade and textures and the composition and just tell me what not in this pic is perfect ? I would remember this stuff for my entire life.

Another classic example of textures in nature. I feel the wrinkled skin just by seeing the image. The shadows and the light must have been really amazing that day! And balancing an image without the face/eye shown in the frame is always such a big challenge. But that issue seems to be tackled very effectively here with the inclusion of the tail as the anchoring point.

What I liked most is the gradation of texture and square crop. These are definitely different images from Corbett.

I liked the crop and the way you have positioned the tail in the frame. Looking at this to try and understand why I like it ( apart from the texture ) is probably because there happens a "V" between the shadow of the tail and the negative space on the right, in the middle of the frame .

This one is definitely wonderful use of negative space

Very nice texture here Ganesh. I loved the contrast and the way the body is emerging from the dark. I somehow not comfortable with the thick black border. For my taste the image may look well without border as well. Thanks for sharing...

For my eyes, I just felt the texture is kind of lost due to the light on the left top of the elephant.

Very nicely framed, Ganesh. I somehow felt the light is bit strong. A a teeny wee bit reduction in exposure might help a lot. BTW, like the use of negative space on RHS. TFS.

Surface and more importantly angle of light makes such textures stand out. I have a related blog here.

I'm sure I'll get the wrath of many by disagreeing with them on this image. Some how it doesn't work for me. The contrast is too much, the highlight too strong and border too distracting. What I certainly like is the amazing texture of the skin.

Pardon me if you all get offended. I know I've not as developed an expertise as you all to appreciate creativity yet, but I'm sure if I stay here long enough I will learn.

Kumar Keshav, you have every right to be different. It always helps to know different views. As a photographer I think we need to be strong enough to decide what makes sense to our own taste buds and take those views. Saying "outstanding" to every image means we are not true to ourselves. I appreciate your candid thoughts.

Back to the image, my taste buds prefer the contrast as is. The large black border is intentional here. My reasoning behind the choice is here in this illustration thread..

Thank you Ganesh. I've been a great fan of your work and creativity for a long time now.

Coming to this image, I guess what my eyes are looking for and what you intend to present are different. The black background seems to make the right side of the image end abruptly while for my personal taste, the third image (ele_3) seems to work better as I get to understand the frame better and relate to texture effectively. Oddly, the lighter border seems to automatically balance the contrast and give my eyes a better halt.

I think it is a little complex: sometimes what we intend to convey and what the viewer perceives are completely different. May be that's a part of another big debate.
