Wow gold for sure! Love the way the texture of the skin shows up here. And the way the hair on the left ear is backlit. Slightly greater DOF would have further enhanced it IMO

Love the light, I would not mind an even tighter frame :), just a hint of the eye Ashwini ? Not very important though as I like the wrinkles on the mouth and I love the frame here. How much did you crop ?

Thanks H and Nilanjan for your views...
@ Nilanjan - This is a full frame image. I tried to increase the light on the body slightly but that spoiled the mood. So reverted to as it is. You can give it a try if you want.

One of the best portraits of this animal i've seen. Cheers for this image Ashwini.

Great image, this reminds me of the classic image of E.P Gee in his classic book Wildlife of India, which I saw as a child. This classic is easily the best shot for all times for the Indian Rhino, it is a color image wherein the rhino after wallowing in mud is golden in the evening sun. If only Nilanjan or anyone has access to that great image it would be great to see it again. This reminds is a fresh take Ashwin, nice textures and lines here.

Fantastic light there Ashwin. May be opening up the shadows (eye region) just a bit would add to the image I guess. Thanks for sharing..

God knows just how many times I came back to see this image, I love the way you try to show some of your subjects Ashwini. A subject which is jewelled in enlightment of the golden light is an impression of the mind of the creator who has the ability to convey the deepest thoughts in the simplest ways. This image to me is beyond a rhino image, I often read something as opening up the shadows, may be it really works, it varies from mind to mind. This is like the thought of a lady's love which touches the deepest soul through the eyes and the slightest smile. We are getting too used to the western world expressions thus losing the nuances of our own world expressions. We in bengal have a ritual during Durga Pooja, where Goddess Durga when goes back to her home after the pooja and is covered with vermillion ( sindur ) thus praying for a long and happy and secured married life. This reddish golden light kind of looks like a blessing on the rhino from the sky, from nature wishing it a very long life which has been threatened by us in so many ways. The image has the power to make me dream and imagine endlessly and I would remember this beyond any technical aspects for many years to come. I can imagine your beautiful smile and am smiling here too, God bless you Ashwini, you are a very touching person.
