Shhhhhhhhhhhh
I am seriously yet to convince myself that its possible to make "creative"/"unique" compositions using Snakes as the subject. Either they sneak away into bushes within a flash or they are always found inside cluttered foliage or in worst case when you see them basking in daylight after a heavy meal, we start scratching our head to figure out how to frame them. I never took chance with this one and tried to play around with it using 600mm and maintaining as much as distance as possible. I really got to admit and confess that its really a scary thing to see a snake closeup through a viewfinder. Even whilst processing this image am getting goosebumps :P

On other hand along with the critique and comments if anyone could point me at the id of the snake, it would be really helpful.

Shiv, I was just imagining that probably you would have got a mind blowing image had the head remained still as here in this image but the portion of the body on which the head rests moved while getting into a coil or something, I strongly feel it is possible to make creative images of snakes, though am too scared of getting any close to them :-). I think this fear is mostly due to the fact that I hardly have knowledge about their behavior and lack of knowledge as in any field leads to fear only :-). I find the use of flash rather harsh here, I know if you ask me what should you have done, I won't have any answer or suggestions even :-). Snake coiling specially in slow moving pythons can be actually a very good subject. I was intending to make an image in Bharatpur of a rock python capturing it's slow motion, but the guy did not move at all. Otherwise the frame is pretty good actually. Very nice and BRAVE attempt.

@Nilanjan - There is absolutely no use of flash here .. shot completely in ambient light. This snaky was as still as anything. Over the period of 30mins max it moved was about 1/2 inch :)
