Portrait of Wind - II
Which one works better for you (if at all it works), this one or this one ? Or does it look a bit bland ?

I feel the color one works very well Ganesh, this one has difficulty in relating to and agree it is a little too bland.

hi ganesh,
i am partial to the one in color for two reasons:
1. dawn's colors were special when seen from kodachadri - at least i rarely see such colors at sunrise! your image had captured the audacious palette very well.
2. the composition... the almost gaussian curve in the colored version gave a visual cue for where the fireball was going to rise... there is a rhythm in that image which might be lost in this crop...

that said, i like both in their own merit, if i were not to compare.
:)a

I too liked the color version more than this one. Colors there are magical..

Ganesh, for me the color version works better as i feel the B & W version takes a dimension out of the image..This as you mentioned looks a bit bland.

Ganesh, Even without looking colour image:-) I can say Colour image will justify the this rare, high altitude horizon lights. And I like the square crop which is contemporary abstract.

For me the color version works much better. The layers of purple, yellow and black adds an additional dimension to the frame.

Hi Ganesh,
Thanks for posting this one for comparison. Between the color version and this one I will go for the color one like everyone. The color one has more of "wind" character in it. My critique on the earlier picture was limited to the brief of "portrait of wind". It does have that character no doubt. But because the background is dark the grass had to be darker to show making the picture heavy so to say. That's where I got stuck. I'm thinking of somewhat lighter background with lighter grass in the color version.
just my thoughts..once again

I actually liked both the versions. B&W seems to give a sense of imminent storm which does not show up in color. I liked the heaviness comment made by nirelp associated with color version. With lesser contrast in color version not sure if it would be possible to give a feel of the breeze experienced on top of the mountain.

I would treat each one with its own merit. The monotone one gives a ghostly effect with the eye searching for some patterns and forms. Making you aware of the movement and transitory state.
The color one of course has the unique colors of the sunrise and the paint stroke kind of effect of the weed.
Both unique and both lovely in their expression

Have been looking at both color version as well as this. I prefer this without toning !

i would prefer 'colour' for hope 'n 'this one' for melancholy. each have their own character, can't compare.

regards.
