Pink Horizon
Just back from 10days trip to Velavadar and GRK in Gujarat. We enjoyed making some perspectives of these flamingos. These flamingos at infinity made a horizon in a horizonless backwaters.
I am sure you will see several perspectives soon by the team which visited these places..

About 120 GB of images to be deleted in coming months :) Back home for a couple of days. Will be out soon on another trip. Will catch up with you all soon..

Ganesh, this is sheer brilliance. Cant help but be amazed by this simple yet BEAUTIFUL creation. Have seen a Billion images of this place all trying to get closer and closer, but this is probably where getting further and further was needed. Love the way the Flamingos separate the otherwise horizon-less space. Whats even more eye catching is the odd flamingo sticking out every now and then with the reflection adding to the strange graph like pattern. Simply love it and good luck with the deletion :)

Happy new year!

The true feel of Khadir portrayed here Ganesh, the natural inclination would be to include as many flamingo as possible in flight forming patterns but those would fail to convey the true feel of the region. It was all about horizons and what could be better than this image to start with. Looking forward to seeing Khadir through your eyes. Have a nice one at Wayanad, wishing you and your family merry christmas and a very happy new year.

I am sorry that I can not stop myself from asking the gentleman or lady who rated this image as 7. Would love to know what went in the mind while rating this image or even seeing this image ? Yes, it looks simple on the surface but this image has a depth beyond imagination, this image speaks of a mind which does not get carried away by the usual flights in full frames or looks for the usual patterns or usual disrupts in patterns. This image is all about a perspective of an environment beyond imagination, about a moment in silence, about space. I have told you so many times Ganesh that am not really sure how people see an image and communicate their thoughts in terms of ratings. Most images getting 9 or so in my opinion are rated due to the awe factor on the surface ( with few exceptions ). Rating in CNP and how an image should be rated needs to be further discussed and explained, remember myself you and Praveen discussed this in Ahmedabad station. I think we are not trying to rate an image as how beautiful it is, the entire idea of rating is how well the creative mind has executed the thought and converted that into an image. A rating of 7 here clearly indicates that the person who rated this image could not perhaps visually interpret the depth of the image. I see more short coming in the mind which has rated this image and not the image. In many cases I have logged in and increased the rating when I felt that the image has not been rated on the merit of the attempt, ( as I had to do for Vikram's grass image ) but I think it's high time that we really explain this issue as there are many young members in CNP who get demoralized and also begin to have doubts in their own minds about their attempts seeing a low rating. We do not need a defined range of images in CNP which can be easily rated 8 or 9 or more, we want the freshness, we want to see images like how they have not been shown before, in such a process if an image fails, so be it, but plz we encourage that mind which has dared to travel the unknown path. We should be rating for that attempt more than anything else. If one is unsure of how the rating process works, better the image is not rated as that can really bring in a sense of failure in the minds of the young artists we have in the forum. Rating low in Ganesh's images are ok as he knows what he is showing, but am really worried now that we are only considering the art of seeing while shooting and not the art of seeing while actually seeing an image. These are my very honest opinion and I really hope am not too wrong in my interpretation. If we have found a known way to create images to get a rating of 8 or 9, I think we should consider that as a failure for CNP and re-try to organize ourselves so that such known attempts of certainty can be branded as failures. My 2 cents, may be am a little harsh here, but I think it's time to be harsh and not politically correct. My apologies in advance.

Nilanjan, I am sure the person who rated 7 must be genuinely thought it deserved 7. I think it is just fine and we need to respect their privacy and thoughts.

The rating serves a few purposes today -

1. To tell the poster when the image does not fit the forum - Not that the image is bad it just means it does not belong here.
2. To encourage brilliant creations

Since creativity and art is often very subjective arriving at a definitive suggestion to rate the images is tough. It also depends on how many images we have seen in the past.
For a beginner in nature photography sharp flight image of a favorite bird may be unique. My belief is statistically we will converge if more people rate. That said, I agree some
more clarity on rating guidelines would help. Hope to update the page in near future.

Hi Ganesh,
It's a very significant image for me. It dares to see as photogenic what most of us wouldn't even notice. barring that thin pink line the entire canvas is a lifeless grey. Subtle punctutation by the distant flamingoes hints at presence. It's an equivalent of earth's shot from space which shows it as green blue circle. As we move in closer forms of life begin to come out and show. You've done that on our own terra firma and how! I actually would want to glide closer and closer to see this frail pink line become a tumultuous congregation of flamingoes. Wonderful idea, seeing and execution.
bows!!!
