over the tropic of cancer
landscape of idar at night, with the hallmark idar mountain, huge granite boulders in the foreground and constellation of ophiuchus on the top (the orange-like star-trail going out of right edge is the star antares of scorpious). being located on tropic of cancer, this end of arvalli(?) mountain range is amazingly eroded into incredible abstract forms due to extreme weather imposing upon since millions of years.

colours are more saturated as i kept wb on shade, as the area was visible in mixed light from far away flourscent tubelight and our regular bulb light. i also used my torch to highlight little bit of some important areas. exposure time is about 15 minutes, that resulted some hot pixels that i have cloned. i have used wide black border to enhance the contrast in the image, as the cnp have neutral grey background i was afraid that it may kill the required contrast in the image.

thank you for your critics and comments. regards.

ps.: it was not until i read the comment of ashwiniji (thank you, sir), i realised that i formerly posted (now deleted) the image with same title, without converting from AdobeRGB to sRGB that diminished some important overall impact. since many days my net is not working and i surf through cybercafes with lousy monitor, where it's difficult to guess how images looks and that also prevent me from commenting on some nice posts over here. thank you once again.

Hi Nevil, One of the best long exposure (and Star Trail) images I have seen so far. Very well executed and it's rich in colour too. Thanks for sharing.

Nevil ji, you continued to rock!! Brilliant image here! The light on the foreground and on the distant boulder is so well balanced! The path of the stars in the sky adds very well to the mood! My only nit in the image is the stone base in the bottom right corner. That is distracting my visual flow. I have no idea if you could have avoided that somehow or not. But a brilliant effort with an amazing result! Kudos to your decision on going with black canvas! - This same comment holds good here a swell. :-)
Nevil ji, you may have to run a noise reduction software on this image to reduce the grains in the sky. In this smaller version it is not much evident but a bigger picture will really bring them up. Once again, a brilliant effort! Thanks for sharing here.

Nice image Nevil - Love the star streaks and distant moutain. I tend to think avoiding the foreground stone would have added to the composition. Thanks for sharing..

respected critics,

thank you very much for all those comments and critics that i consider my strongest inspiration.

here if we look at the bottom-right corner triangle, i think it do hampers my overall image but now i am not sure whether it was avoidable or not as there were very few places flat enough to keep my tripod and away from little strong street lights (i prefer, not to burn much as i normally tend to stick with what i get). about the other large granite boulder in the foreground is what i intentionally framed to form some interesting pattern and to have sense of place in the image (actually, i believe those foreground boulders addup the interestingness in the whole image).

once again, thank you very much. regards.

Coming back to this image again - I think you need to rotate the image slightly ACW to make the boulder straight! I forgot to add this in my previous comment.

Beautifully exposed with nice colours which we seldom get to see in Star trail photography. Very well presented.
