What is in a photograph ?
What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you see the photograph above ?

Is it moody ? Is it Artistic ? Is it cluttered ? Is it technically imprefect ? Is it Creative ? Is it a typical BOS ?

In the last few days i happened to show this image to few people and each one of them have told one of the above. Am keen on knowing if this type of image fits the bill on a forum like CNP. Am looking forward for more participation from the fellow members in knowing what is the first thing they get to say when they see the above image.

Wanted to post this image in the forums for some conversation but later decided to push it here itself.

Get started and be frank .. :o)

So lets kick-off ....I have learnt several things on this forum about photography and imaging and how perceptions of people go about creatively analysing/ viewing/ absorbing an image and seeing from the creators point of view based on her/ his expressions in words. Coming to this particular one, though this bird looks back lit, the details on this side of the bird is visible. But that is just an observation Sir.
I don't find any reason why this cannot be on this forum... WHY?...
Going by my small stint of nature photography and extremely small period of experimenting with a camera, should this question of yours be answered from the point of view of the the guidelines (may be beautiful- BUT NOT CREATIVE) or should this question of yours be answered from the point of view of a person who does'nt know how to use a camera but loves nature? I would accept the first (may be beautiful- BUT NOT CREATIVE) if I was doing my job STRICTLY as a Moderator, but choose the second (point of view of a person who doesnt know how to use a camera but loves nature) if i had seen this bird with you when you photographed it Sir. I will stand by the second option (though i was'nt with you when you shot this) and hence i don't find any reason why this cannot be on this forum. ...:-) it would help me with a direction to know others views. My current stand is not intended to dilute the creative vision of this forum.... (have to mention that ;-)) .... VERY EAGERLY looking out where this discussion will go...

As Arathi has posted elsewhere I think art is contextual. Here are some circumstances where this photograph will be highly valued

- 30 Years back. When lenses, microchip for matrix metering, ability to make 20 shots in place of one, you know the drift , this would have been a fantastic shot because of the challenges and that it showed the technical mastery as as a craft as well as the patience and nature study of the photographer. The current level of access to make good pics makes this more common place
- A extremely rare or extinct species (god forbid) again would have made this a highly valued photograph. Like the pic of a snow leopard
- Taking this as a base line and adding more to this with a vision and mastery over say Photoshop to project a specific message. May be digital art but could mean something in the art world if not nature photography

Just IMHO. Open to some views
Never the less : Good light: Well exposed: Some sense of action: Has all the ingredients; Good mastery over craft
