[Tribute to trees] The Ancient
Whilst making images with a theme in mind is trend here on CNP, I had this theme in mind since some time now, making of this particular image > gallery/image_page.php?album_id=6&image_id=2828 made me feel that I should also think about "Tribute to trees" theme. It was 2 years back that I made few images but I never even came close to what I wanted. It has taken me 2 years to finally realise it I suppose.

What better place to get critiqued and improve it than on CNP? On another note there is a fantastic thread started by Ganesh about building connections - without being verbose ( which I already have been ! ), I always believe I connect more of my 'inner feelings' with 'outer world' when I make nature abstracts. With tribute to trees postings that would follow in weeks ( considering my hectic professional schedules), I would evoke most of your attention and thoughts.

Thanks in advance for your views.

wonderfully made, pramod. deep wrinkles, scars 'n wear-n-tear makes this image very intriguing & nicely portraying your thoughts. i find, upper-left corner little distracting, you may crop from top or burn.

regards.

The weathered texture is lovely. IMHO there is a good case here for BnW. It will bring out the tonality and texture further.

Gives a good perspective for "tribute to trees":) the texture is very displayed here....monochrome may give a different meaning to the picture and i love this colored version.

That dead wood seem to have life of its own Pramod. I do think Raj's suggestion on B&W is brilliant considering the subtle tonal variations in the the mid tones and below them with sprinkled highlights. The beauty of B&W is mainly is handling subtle tonal variations and giving them distinct representation - not just in seeing it to that we don't we don't burnt out or blown out pixels there. I think this image is a perfect candidate for a conversion. I would consider keeping slanted log in the upper left corner muted though.

Hope you had a productive trip to Western Ghats jungles.. Thanks for sharing..

I liked the processing very much. It's giving a tinted monotone feel. A 90dgree CCW rotation may also look good.

and each weathered gnarled knot, contour, crack and crevice has stories to tell...withstood the ravages of time..stood mute witness to deluge, floods, famine and drought, bounced back with vigour....oh, the wisdom it must pack... i love this image and what it says...if i could take a leaf from it ...and learn!!!!!

Thanks for those beautiful words there again Neelu. You are impeccable in translating emotions to words. I am speechless.

"if i could take a leaf from it" ... Wah! I reiterate :)

@Ganesh, thanks for those kind views, I plan to post the B&W version of the entire series in the illustration forum later.

Thank you all for your thoughts and views.

Love the concept of the series Pramod, I like the color and the jagged edges in the image makes me feel the death somehow.
I would have preferred more DOF, there are parts of the image which are not in focus which is kind of distracting, also a crop to avoid the twig in the top right corner might help.
