stereo pinnacles
on my way through the pinnacles in trans-himalayan cold desert of spiti.

respected adm., mod. & viewers,

i don’t know whether this photo fit in the scope of cnp or not. i am posting it just because it is one of the finest thing in photography that i encountered. i would simply love to share one more aspect of photography which is incredibly alive!

to enjoy this stereo (3d) image, first just go through any one of the image like a normal photo. when you are ready to see in 3d …

- concentrate on the centre line of 2 images for about half a minute
- when your eyes get little tired, try to focus your vision as if you are lost in deep thoughts, keeping the direction of vision towards the centre line
- a 3rd image will appear, pushing aside those two (if not yet, try to force your pupil nearer to each other by looking at the bridge of your nose)
- adjust your vision to see only 3 images (not four)
- concentrate on the 3rd middle image, the stereo one.

hope you could see the 3rd image and enjoyed. if not, try hard; i promise, it’s worth that little pain in your eyes!

i know, this cannot be kept on the wall, but a nice way to keep our memories alive. i would love to read your critics regarding that 3d image and the philosophy behind this aspect of photography.

regards,

I tried this for a good five minutes , it did'nt work for me. No third image materialised but my eyes went watery to very watery. Was it intended like this.

i am very sorry vijayji, no it's not intended like that. may be you don't even blinked while concentrating! you may blink and even roll your vision little bit around to feel comfortable. once it happens, your eyes will get trained and every other time onwards you'll automatically see it in 4 to 5 seconds! this seeing process it little tricky and little hard to explain in words. maybe you let someone else try, and if it happens with him, he will be able to guide you.

this whole process of seeing is to see double vision and overlapping of the 3rd and 4th image (that result in the middle 3rd image i want you to see).

once again, sorry for that pain. regards.

Hi Nevil,

This is just amazing ! You have adopted this unque technique to the photo images to create 3D effect. Awesome work !

VMR,
It's like good old technique wherein you hold two of your forefingers (facing each other) infront of your eyes about 5-6 in and try to see any subject beyond the the fingers about 7-8ft then you will see a floating finger (which is combination of your both forefingers). It's basically moving your both eye balls to get this effect. Hope I was able to explain.

This one was superb Nevil. I could exactly see what u were describing. The 3-D is simply superb. There's so much of difference between seeing a single 2-D image & the 3-D illusion of the same. U can actually see the depth. The separation between the two front rocks & the one in the centre (inbetween) is so vivid & appreciable in 3-D. U can also see/feel the steep valley between them. The road to gets the 3-D feel.

Thanks for sharing this one.
Does this happen to any image placed side by side or only certain specific images ?

thank you everyone for dropping in the note that 3d was visible, otherwise i would have felt little fool as i was worried about getting across that 'seeing' process.

i think the another way what shankerji meant by was ...
- after looking at that centre line few 5-10 secs., keep your inder finger just on the centre line
- now, concentrate on the finger tip and move the finger s l o w l y towards you (so that those images remains in the background)
- at certain point you will notice in the background that there are 3 images ...
- slowly shift you vision and focus to that 3rd centre image, and concentrate. (here, seeing 3 images is easy; but again shifting focus from your finger tip to that 3rd image will need little practice).

taking pictures for 3d is just a simply process. those two photo are not same (kaushiji) but taken keeping sideway distance of few inches between 2 shots. only be sure that nothing is moving in the frame. i have few more images which does not fit here in cnp, but i will load in my flickr a/c, in a day or two. if you are interested, please visit http://www.flickr.com/photos/nevilzaver ... 533137281/

thank you once again. regards.
