...Of Rollers and Silhouettes
This is my first shot on this page and I would love to hear your opinions on it. The image is of an Indian Roller and was shot at Pench National Park. I have tried to create a subtle mood in the image and a calmness that I myself feel when I am in the jungle. There was an abundance of Rollers in the Park and I wanted to use this to my advantage my experimenting and coming up with different perspectives. Would love to hear your views on the same.

Hey Falak, Welcome to CNP ! It was nice meeting you at Pench.. We hope you will enjoy participating here.

Friends, Falak is still very young (just completing 12th?). Please help him sharpen his visions.

On the image, I think silhouetted background which is not completely bright (pure white) adds to subtle mood of the image. You may want to play with different highlight settings (highlight lever in levels) to see how it affects the mood. Its all a very interesting exploration..

Let me repeat what I told Aishwarya, another very young enthusiast like you a few weeks back - you young minds have far more creativity than some of us oldies here. Don't get overly influenced by what we say here. Firmly stick to your views if you can't relate to what we say here. You may want to listen to technical suggestions since it comes with years of experience of using camera. But when it comes to suggestions related to creative/artistic aspects of the image go with your gut feel. Remember you are right here, not us !!

Best wishes and wish you good light !

Thank you for the warm welcome, sir. I've been following the posts on this site for a few months now but could never gather the guts to become a member because there are so many great photographers here. To see my images sharing the same space as such great pieces of art feels great. May I add that meeting you at Pench and having that talk with you has inspired me to think out of the box and shoot creatively.

I will definitely try and play around with the levels and see how the background affects the mood of the image. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have come to this forum to learn and grow as an artist. Simply going through others' images and critiques has helped me a lot. Sometimes I have my own different opinion as well. After all, creativity is subjective. That's what makes creative nature photography so intriguing to me. To learn about so many varied interpretations of the same subjects. Technical expertise is without a shadow of doubt the forte of the much more experienced photographers here who I wish to learn from. Together with the knowledge I gain from here and my own creative ideas, I hope to create some unique frames in the future and share them with you.

Thank you again for the welcome,
Falak Vasa.

Hi Falak, You have a beautiful name..does it mean heaven? welcome to CNP. I'm sure you will learn a lot and so shall we through your youthful energy. Falak what I like in your opening shot is the inclusion of leaf. A beginner would not be concerned about a dead leaf but you got it in pairing it with Indian roller. Deciding on a silhouette makes pairing meaningful. Would love to know your thoughts on inclusion of leaf.
God bless!

Neelu ma'am - thank you for the warm welcome. It is easy for anyone to be intimidated by some of the great works of art that are on this site. But those very works inspire me to work harder and improve as a photographer. I agree about age being a key factor. I believe the biggest advantage I have is that I figured out what I want to do in life at an early age, thus giving me ample time to grow and improve, while my intellect is still young and easy to mould. Looking forward to making some friends here and learning anything and everything I can from all of you.

Nirlep sir - Haha, ironically, I hate my name. It literally means 'sky' and figuratively, 'endlessness'. Thank you for your feedback. I decided on including the leaf in the frame because of its form. It wasn't exactly a leaf, but more like a dried up bulb of leaves with an interesting shape. I loved how I could juxtapose the two different forms. It gives something to relate the other form by. I also wanted a balancing element in the image apart from the Roller to make the image more appealing and this subject worked perfectly. I also decided to include a small part of the landscape in the background as it gave a sense of place.

Welcome to CNP Falak... have seen you grow as a photographer over the years and its great to see you here. This forum will play a major role in grooming your creative mind and perceiving nature differently. While it would always be good to observe and learn from the works of the brilliant works of art presented in this forum, you should let your creativity free and untampered when it comes to photography... Looking forward to more from you on CNP. Cheers and good luck

Shivang sir - Thank you for the warm welcome. Loving every minute of being a part of this amazing forum. It's hardly been a week since I joined and I'm already noticing changes in the way I perceive the world around me. Individuality, though, is the most important asset of any photographer and I won't be giving that up. Nonetheless, looking at the works of others here is truly inspiring. Thanks for the advice. :D
