Fireflies - Print vs Display
I got some of my recent firefly images printed yesterday for the CNP Print Meet tomorrow. I got printed this image too.

As we discussed in the past it is very hard to guess what image will look good as a print compared to how it appears on a computer display. Some prints look good on display but may fail to impress as a print. Converse is also very true. The viewing distance is another important factor in a print. We rarely back off from a computer display to see an image. This is a necessity for a print viewing. Some printed images look very good when we view them from a distance (beyond the optimal thumb rule of diagonal distance of a print). The medium of paper/canvas also plays a big role. And there are many other factors which makes print making both interesting and frustrating at times. If you are in Bangalore tomorrow please drop by to CNP Print Meet. We will have an opportunity to learn from others’ mistakes too! Let us ponder over all these challenges while we enjoy prints made by many CNP members.

As I understand we will have very interesting sessions/discussions/prints on display tomorrow.

If you are in Bangalore please don't miss!! Looking forward to meeting you all.

Difference between this and the print we saw is huge Ganesh. I am not in any way discrediting this image, it is fantastic. The print however is a class above. It offered better image experience than digital medium. What made the print better? The texture of the canvas perhaps, or the much bigger dimensions of the print itself! Thanks for bringing the print to the meet.

Madhav, I think, as I mentioned, on a display we seen an image. On a print/canvas we see a marriage of the medium with the image. The success of this marriage may depend on many hard to guess factors...

Ganesh, there is no match to the pleasure of viewing this image on print. The display doesn't give justice to the image at all. Those empty black pixels were brought to life by the canvas.

Best Regards

I am lost for words. Too good of an image and I cant even imagine how this would look on a print! Tfs and I hope to see the print someday.
