Wings
#CNPAtHome

Considering the exposure 0.3 seconds for these parakeets in flight, the rhythmically registered three wing tips of each bird means they probably were flapping their wings once in about 111 milli seconds!!

This is very fresh and soothing! Do you also think the phase one played any role in creating such a visual?

Looks lovely.
Interesting point Pratik. Ganesh was this leaf shutter or the focal plane...that could have made a difference ?

Pratik, given the ease of use/speed, 35mm works much better. Probably I can get 4 frames to select a best one in this case. However, if I take into consideration quality of the files, dynamic range, resolution/cropping then comparing 35mm and full frame medium format is apples to oranges comparison. Full frame medium format is in a different league. Here are some limited comparisons of dynamic range. You may also check some of the images here.

Raj, beyond flash sync leaf shutter and focal plane differs in rendering. In this case, at .3 sec it should not matter.

Pratik, I made this image today to give you a feel of the dynamic range of medium format. The first image below is as shot - raw converted to tiff and 1024 pixels jpg with no change. The second image is the same raw file minus 4 stops plus some levels correction & BW conversion, 1024 pixels jpg. I can do a much better job of post processing this. However, this is to give you a quick idea on the freedom we have with these 16 bit raw files. You may ignore some halos/sensor dust etc. The posted image above is not very off as far as exposure is concerned. Then we get much more depth and tonal ranges to play with.

haha wonderful Ganesh. I think this is something we have never seen before :) The DR of medium format is helping us to see the intricate details of wing dynamics of the birds like never before. I am already thinking about a complete new set of possibilities in nature photography of the same elements(subjects) we have seen/photographed before. But this time in more detail and with number of surprises! :)

Wow, this is something! I love the first image where it looks like they are dancing. May be the joy of freedom.
The Dynamic range is something unbelievable. As yourself said this opens up whole new world. What is hard to believe is the exposure which was off by 4 stops still looks so clean and natural. I hope this lockdown ends soon and you get to experiment more.

Best regards,
Prashanth
