Warm Wishes - 2013
Wish you all a fulfilling 2013 ! A little bit of everything in life makes it more complete - not just pleasure or pain.

I took a long break for a week and spent time photographing colors! A few years back I made a similar attempt using colorful flowers which in my mind did not go anywhere. Thought of giving it another try as the number of grey hairs quadrupled since then. Made over five hundred images during last one week with a focus on understanding colors, interaction of one with another, role of intensity of colors related to mood that it might generate etc. It did not take long to discover I only scratched tip of an iceberg. Let me share a few images here, these colors are of some flowers and leaves. Technique of 'mixing' them in camera isn't all that important but observing and wondering about the interaction of different colors and tonal ranges and potential to use them to evoke certain moods in our compositions is worth exploring. Further, there is always some subjectivity in how colors are perceived by different people but there is a dominating pattern
in perceptions which is worth recognizing.

A few more image below (wanted a little darker background for some of these images below but can't control the bg here using img tag bbcode).

Imbalance. Are we wishing to see yellow here ?

Pain.

It is interesting to note how the mood generated by the same color can totally change based on the context around it. Red may portray energy/love as well as fear/pain.

Image
Conflict. Anyone feeling a happy note in this one ?

Just a pleasure could be boring too.

Every color in the spectrum adds a mood. Any missing color or disproportionate use will create a dominating mood. I am sure it will
take years for me to characterize and understand this...

Not necessarily we share it only for appreciations. What if Haaduvudu anivarya karma nanage ? ( "singing is inevitable for me") - Dr. G. S Shivarudrappa.

Also, may be to seek critical views to improve further..

Best wishes Ganesh!

Though these images are beyond me, still I like the play of colors in these images. Don't know why, I had goose bumps after seeing the first two images.

Best regards,
Prashanth

great images Ganesh. Right now i am just enjoying the colors of the images...for me it needs multiple visits to these images to absorb the feel.

with respect to comments from Aditya, i remember reading an article where there was a question. Many of the music forms are abstract (like aalap) and if a well trained musician sees a abstract art (like painting) , whether the person will be able to connect to that?? Its a tough question to answer. Answer is "May or May not be". As the abstraction of life may be different from abstract music which may be different from abstract painting.

Wish everyone a move ahead and then some in whatever they dream of in the new year !

To quote Ganesh
"..... .I still personally feel that the uniqueness of abstract photography lies in representing abstraction in close proximity to reality. "

First set of colour mixes, does not connect with me. My mind interprets these as an empty disc with psychedelic lights and fog ! A single photograph of this set , viewed alone, I would skip.
As a set, this does have a sense of theme, that I can understand.
The spider photograph to me , looks like a boat anchor photographed underwater in low light .

Where I do see some "connect" is the yellow leaf posted just above the spider where I am able to make out some nature element in some form.

I hope I am not sounding harsh. Apologies in advance if it comes out that way. My reason is to elucidate what works and, what does not work is for me.

On this one, I admit to a "Dhritiman" face too !
