Portal as an allegorical concept in philosophy and architecture etc. has existed for a while now. Interestingly it was sometimes seen as an escape , a window to the otherworldly . Sometimes a place to be aspired for but hard to attain and other times a dangerous parallel.

Felt this was related to your expression in these set of images even though it was not exactly same.
