Here is another version with simple color to grey scale conversion in PS

This one is using one click conversion to grey. The one posted in critique forum is using channel mix to emphasize the yellow eye.

I liked the color version more. In the color version eye is strongly emphasised and it has more dimensions.B/W image looks a little bit flat to my eyes.But then that's just me and tastes differ.
