Borders on the image

Postby Gururaja » Thu Jun 05, 2008 3:06 pm

Some times I do feel that 'Borders' on the image act more or less like an image 'title'. Good title pulls you and not so good might do other way round. Yet, if the image is good, invariably it over weighs the border (one might get a feed back on changing thickness, or contrast etc or to remove!!! too). So far I have not tried to put borders for my image, but after going through these wonderful images in the forum, I have started feeling that, I must try out putting on some and see. I would love to receive comments on this. Back of my mind, I still feel that borders are individual choice, but is there any bare minimum quality for it?

Dear Gururaja,

This is an interesting topic for me too. In past I tried to understand interaction of the border with the image which resulted in this article. Personally I think border helps in focussing the viewer on the image by providing a visual boundary. I think, when this visual boundary is more dominant compared to the image inside the overal effect of the image (with border) gets diluted.

Would love to know your thoughts !
